i hate it when i really ship a heterosexual pairing and they dont end up together. the one fucking time i was rooting for the straights and this is what happens to me
nebula and mantis were both heavily dehumanized and treated like objects by the people who abused them (thanos, ego) and were so isolated that they were lead to internalize the idea that this treatment was somehow fair or rational. nebula views her worth proportionally to her strength in combat, and mantis readily accepts the idea that she is like a pet to ego. the isolation involved in their abuse has left both women with few social skills, and they both have a difficult time interacting with other people on a meaningful level. nebula acts hostile toward everyone, which tends to scare people away. mantis is extremely friendly, but her naivete prevents people from taking her very seriously. i find it fascinating how much these characters have in common even though they seem so different from each other. despite their contrasting personalities, i think they both could learn a lot from each other. it’s one of the reasons i hope to see more of their interactions in the future.
